Who Garth Supports

Expanding emotional wellness in the Business, Aged Care, and Community sectors.

Business

Emotions Drive People – People Drive Results

In business, outcomes are directly influenced by the emotional states your people experience. When emotions are in a desired state, performance, communication, and team dynamics improve. When emotions shift into an undesired state, the outcomes reflect this. The challenge for any organisation is helping people maintain a desired emotional state, especially in high pressure, fast changing environments.

People who consistently operate from a desired emotional state typically demonstrate high Emotional Intelligence (EQ), strong Emotional Wellness, and well-developed Emotional Resilience. Together, these capabilities help people stay emotionally balanced, think clearly, and respond constructively even when pressure, uncertainty, or rapid change is present.

Why This Work Matters to Garth

Garth has led teams, supported staff through change, and developed high performing teams across his career. He understands the realities leaders face and the emotional demands that come with managing people, navigating pressure, and maintaining performance. He has seen how strong emotional capability helps leaders communicate clearly, support their teams, and create environments where people can do their best work.

He also understands that leaders today are often expected to achieve more with fewer people, while still maintaining team wellbeing and connection. This makes emotional wellness, emotional intelligence, and emotional resilience essential skills for modern leadership.

Garth believes that effective leadership requires moving from a task focus to a people focus in order to achieve the tasks. When leaders understand their people, support their emotional needs, and build strong relationships, performance naturally improves and teams become more capable, confident, and connected.

For Garth, this work is about people. When leaders and teams have strong emotional capability, they work together more effectively, handle pressure with greater balance, and build workplace cultures where people feel supported and able to thrive and want to contribute and be fully engaged.

Why Emotional Intelligence, Emotional Wellness, and Emotional Resilience Matter in Business

By strengthening these three emotional capabilities across your workforce, your organisation can achieve:

  • a high performing team that creates a positive environment and culture
  • elevate already high-performing individuals and teams
  • better staff engagement and stronger commitment
  • reduced team conflict
  • more constructive communication
  • increased productivity through clearer thinking and better decision making
  • higher retention as people feel supported and valued
  • reduced absenteeism due to improved emotional wellness
  • improved customer satisfaction resulting in better sales

These are not soft skills. They are core drivers of performance, culture, and business outcomes.

The Value for Your Organisation

Strengthening emotional capability across your workforce leads to:

  • more resilient teams
  • more effective leaders
  • a healthier organisational culture
  • improved performance and customer outcomes
  • a workforce equipped to thrive, not just cope

Aged Care

Supporting Staff to Strengthen Emotional Wellness, Intelligence, and Resilience

Aged Care work is emotionally demanding. Staff regularly support residents who are adjusting to major life changes, while also managing their own stress, workload, and emotional load. When staff have strong emotional wellness, emotional intelligence, and emotional resilience, they are better equipped to support each other, communicate clearly, and stay emotionally balanced in challenging situations.

Strengthening emotional capability in staff creates a more supportive workplace culture where people feel valued, understood, and able to bring their best to their roles.

Why This Work Matters to Garth

While supporting his mother over seven years in a Care Home after she experienced a stroke, Garth witnessed first-hand how difficult it was for her to accept and adjust to her new environment. He observed the excellent work of the staff and their dedication to his mother and other residents. Over this period, he gained experience and understanding of the operations of an Aged Care facility while walking alongside the staff.

Because of this personal experience, Garth is passionate about supporting the Aged Care sector with developing the emotional wellness of staff, which directly supports the emotional wellness of residents.

The Value of Strong Emotional Wellness for Staff

When staff understand their own emotional patterns and can recognise the emotions of their colleagues, your facility benefits through:

  • Stronger peer support during high pressure moments
  • Lower stress levels and reduced emotional overload
  • Clearer communication across teams
  • Fewer conflicts and reduced emotional escalation
  • More stable teams who work well together
  • Staff who model emotional balance for residents and families

A team with strong emotional capability is more resilient, more collaborative, and better able to provide high quality care.

The Value of Understanding Residents Through an Emotional Lens

When a person moves into an Aged Care facility, it can take months, sometimes years, for them to adjust. This transition is often stressful for the resident and their family, especially when the move is due to declining health. Grief, loss of independence, and uncertainty are common emotional experiences.

Staff who have strong emotional capability can:

  • Recognise resident emotions more accurately
  • Respond calmly and constructively to distress
  • Support adjustment through grief and change
  • Communicate effectively with families
  • Reduce escalation
  • Create emotional safety for residents

Emotional wellness directly influences physical wellness, so supporting residents emotionally is essential to their overall care.

The Value to Your Facility

Strengthening the emotional capability of your staff creates calmer, more emotionally aware care environments where both staff and residents feel supported. Teams communicate more clearly, collaborate more effectively, and handle high pressure moments with greater emotional balance.

As staff become more confident in recognising and responding to emotions both their own and those of residents your facility experiences fewer escalations and incidents, smoother transitions, and more constructive interactions with families. This emotional capability helps reduce distress during challenging moments and contributes to a more stable, connected workplace culture.

The overall impact is a more resilient workforce and a better resident experience. When staff feel supported emotionally, they bring more clarity, compassion, and confidence to their roles, which directly enhances the quality of care and satisfaction for residents and families.

Community

Supporting Community Groups to Strengthen Emotional Wellness, Connection, and Resilience

Community groups play an important role in supporting the people they serve through their own purpose, focus, and outcomes. The emotional wellness courses are designed to fit naturally into the programmes, activities, and services that community groups already provide. They give people practical skills that help them understand their emotions, support each other, and build stronger emotional capability over time.

When emotional wellness is woven into community programmes, it strengthens the impact of the work already being done. People are better able to apply emotional skills in real life situations, leaders feel more supported, and groups develop a shared language that helps them navigate challenges together. Over time, this builds long term emotional wellness and resilience within the group and the communities they serve.

Why This Work Matters to Garth

Garth believes deeply in the importance of strong, connected communities. In the current environment, community plays a vital role in helping people feel supported, included, and able to navigate change and uncertainty. He believes that emotionally strong communities create positive ripple effects that influence the wider community in meaningful ways.

When community members have strong emotional capability, they communicate more clearly, support each other more effectively, and contribute to a more connected and resilient community culture. This strengthens relationships, enhances wellbeing, and leads to positive outcomes across all areas of community life.

For Garth, this work is about people. When community groups build emotional capability, they create spaces where people can thrive, contribute, and feel fully engaged in the life of their community.

The Value of Emotional Wellness for Community Groups

When people understand their own emotional patterns and can recognise the emotions of others, the group becomes more connected, supportive, and resilient. Strong emotional capability helps people communicate clearly, support each other during challenging moments, and build stable, trusting relationships within the group.

Community groups often support people who are navigating a wide range of emotional pressures including financial stress, family challenges, social change, and uncertainty. These pressures can influence participation, engagement, and the overall sense of safety within the group.

When people have strong emotional capability, they can:

  • Recognise emotions in themselves and others
  • Respond calmly to challenges
  • Support others through change or uncertainty
  • Communicate effectively across diverse backgrounds
  • Reduce escalation in group interactions
  • Create emotional safety where people feel understood and included

As emotional capability grows, the group becomes calmer, more connected, and more able to navigate stress and uncertainty. This strengthens relationships, improves wellbeing, and supports the outcomes the group is working toward. The benefits extend beyond the group setting, creating positive ripple effects that influence the wider community in meaningful and sustainable ways.

Community Emotional Wellness Initiative

The Community Emotional Wellness Initiative is designed to create long term, community wide impact by building emotional capability across multiple areas of the community. Representatives from different groups and services attend the recommended 2-day Emotional Wellness Course, becoming Community Emotional Wellness Champions who can support emotional wellness within their own settings.

Community representatives may come from:

  • Community groups and services
  • Schools including staff and youth leaders
  • Churches
  • Aged Care facilities
  • Healthcare
  • Social service providers
  • NGOs
  • Business associations
  • Council

Alternatively, individual community groups or services may choose to hold the course specifically for their members.

To deepen the impact, participants establish an Emotional Wellness Group where they meet regularly after the course to reflect on their learning goals, share wins and challenges, discuss progress, and identify next actions. As Community Emotional Wellness Champions, they then create groups within their own areas of the community to share their emotional wellness knowledge.

This creates an Emotional Wellness Ripple Effect, a growing network of emotionally capable people who strengthen connection, resilience, and wellbeing across the wider community.
